I've become a big fan of the BBC show, You Are What You Eat, that is hosted by the holistic nutritionist, Gillian McKeith. I bought two of her books, You Are What You Eat and Slim for Life, and read through them both to get an idea of what the plans looked like and what the grocery list would look like.
The grocery list was quite long and included a ton of produce (39 celery stalks, 53 carrots, 12 cucumbers...just for one week) and it included a lot of produce that is only available in the organic section, here. Organic isn't necessarily a bad thing; it's just more expensive and we are trying to cut costs right now until we can get rid of our mortgage.
The people on the television show, who are from the UK, always say that the food they buy for this plan saves them money. However, it was almost 3 times what we normally spend.
So, we'll stick to the plan mostly to the letter this week and when I plan for next week, I'll include more of the items that are cheaper, yet still healthy, like lentils and split peas.
