Let me preface this story by saying that today is my second day of not having any caffeine at all since we are starting a new healthy eating plan tomorrow (more about that, later) and I'm not thinking entirely clearly without the caffeine buzz (I won't give in. I won't give in...)
My mom came over with my grandmother (her mother) today and brought some leftovers (chicken and pastry) from our family dinner last night. We sat around and talked for a while and got hungry so I decided I'd pop the casserole dish with the chicken and pastry into the oven. She had aluminum foil on top of the glass casserole dish with the plastic traveling cover. I peeled the plastic cover off, then the aluminum foil and then put the plastic cover on and popped it all into the oven.
A sane person would see the problem here. However, I did not.
A few minutes later, my mom went to check on the oven and found that the plastic cover had melted (doh!). She put on my oven mitt and peeled the plastic off the glass as best she could and we threw the plastic lid away.
Luckily, we caught it before it touched the food at all.
