Recently, Blizzard came out with a feature called RealID that was designed to let you communicate with your friends on different game realms or different Blizzard games. I thought this was an absolutely wonderful idea until I found out that to use it, someone would have to know the e-mail address that was also the username for my WoW account and that it would use my real name instead of a username. I know a few people who absolutely will not use the feature because of this but I was not too concerned because I was only going to share with my actual friends and possibly with guildies so my information would not be too out in the open. I would like to see some stats on how much usage this feature has received since it was put in with Patch 3.3.5.

Now, we find out that when they upgrade their forums, Blizzard is going to have us posting with our real first and last names through RealID instead of with usernames or character names. I think they have lost their minds! I will not be posting in a public forum using my real name. I have a feeling that many people, like one of my WoW friends, are going to feel the same and usage on the forums will decrease so much that it will no longer be a useful tool. Hopefully, Blizzard will wake up and figure out that this is a horrible idea and let us pick a username to give out on RealID and the forums. Especially, since you can currently get in trouble with Blizzard for using someone's real name on the forums. Way to be hypocritical there, Blizzard.

Perhaps, we should all boycott the RealID system until Blizzard figures out that our privacy is more important to us than their community.
